This image was shot in Gee's Bend, Alabama, in one of the remaining Roosevelt Project houses from the 1930's. When the houses were first built for the descendants of the Gee's Bend slaves the government figure out that the tiny houses were too small for the large families that occupied them. The solution was to come back and do additions to the house, which resulted in the addition of what was called the 12 foot room because of its dimensions. While hanging out at the Pettway lounge (the only business of any kind in Gee's Bend) I struck up a conversation with a man who actually grew up in this particular house and gave me the history of the 12 foot room. He was one of 14 family members that shared this tiny house.
